Wyoming Families First: “Dealing With Domestic Violence” (Oct 2004; Aired Wyoming Public TV)

...explores the many facets of handling family violence situations in our communities. We’ll meet women who are survivors of abuse, take a look at Sheridan County’s coordinated response to domestic violence, and learn about an innovative education program in Pinedale area schools. We’ll also meet Theresa Pacheco, mother of Melissa Martinez who was brutally murdered by her husband earlier last year.

Wyoming Families First: “From Assistance to Self Sufficiency” (Oct 2004; Aired WYPTV)

...looks at programs in place offering economic assistance to families in our state. We’ll meet Bonnie who left fast food work for a better job in hopes of supporting her two young sons; Teena, a single mom who trained to drive trucks to increase her income; and Emrys whose mobile home was weatherized through a special program offered by the state.

Wyoming Families First: “Turning Toward Adoption” (Nov 2004; Aired WYPTV)

examines the issues surrounding adoption for foster children in the system. We’ll meet several couples who have adopted children including the Lundahl’s, a family of twelve kids: two “biological,” four in foster care and six adopted children. We’ll also learn about adult adoption as a relatively new option.

Wyoming Families First: “Life on the Reservation” (Nov 2004; Aired WYPTV)

...explores the issues families on the Wind River Reservation face from child welfare to economic assistance to foster care and adoption. We’ll also look at innovative programs that support Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho families and discuss the impact that a loss of culture and tradition can have on their tribes.

Wyoming Families First: “Understanding the Children & Families Initiative” (Dec 2004;Aired WYPTV)

...takes a behind-the-scenes look at the two-year process that is examining the problems children and families face in Wyoming and brings together the state, local agencies and the private sector to develop ways to improve the system that serves them. With a year left to go, we’ll learn what has happened so far with the Initiative and what is still left to do.

Wyoming Families First: “Examining Juvenile Justice” (Jan 2005; Aired WYPTV)

...reveals what happens to young people when they enter the system after committing a crime. We’ll look at Wyoming’s system that experts consider to be fragmented and explore ways the system can be improved.

...takes a look at the methods and challenges of collecting child support. We’ll meet one custodial parent who is still owed over $70,000 from her ex-husband and also hear from non-custodial parents with strong opinions about meeting their financial obligations.

Wyoming Families First: “Turning to Faith-Based Initiatives” (Feb 2005; Aired WYPTV)

...explores the way religious institutions have transformed grass-roots projects into more structured programs that work in concert with government agencies and non-profit organizations to help children, families and communities throughout the state.

Wyoming Families First: “Understanding Adult Protection Services” (Feb 2005; Aired WYPTV)

...looks at the often hidden problem of abuse of the elderly as well as adults with physical or mental disabilities. Experts explain what is being done to identify and deal with the problem and one family talks about the repercussions of abuse. Winner of a 2005 Telly Award!
